The Core Topic
Everybody wants to change the world, even Peter Weyland. It’s a lofty goal, easily thrown around as a sound bite or talking point, it makes a nice campaign slogan, and some people have actually managed to do it. Is it always a good thing? That is a subject we can debate in each and every podcast episode here, and just about anywhere else. The fact is, though, change happens, big and small, and somethings these changes work, sometimes they do not. What next?
The was and is the motivation for starting this podcast show, the notion that when one learns of some big thing with big impact potential, the initial reaction might be one I heard quite often while in Ireland, for better or worse. Then, what will come of it? That is the discussion to be had (certainly over more than a single podcast episode).
Topic arcs, then, will appear across the FFS Talk podcast, ideally revisiting often and combining and dissecting where appropriate. We will no doubt find as we discuss, that one problem may lead to two solutions, with that extra solution applying to a different problem. Maybe these are challenges, or problems, or gaps, whatever the term, someone somewhere is investing time and energy, sometimes real money and perhaps the time and energy and money of others, to come up with solutions. So we talk about these.

Just an interesting discussion… Harari brings a useful amount of cynicism to his discussion about several things.
Mostly a reference to the interaction between Sabine Hossenfelder (do check out her YouTube show, Science without the gobbledygook, which is excellent, as is the PBS Space Time channel that Matt O’Dowd hosts presently) and Eric Weinstein, which is professional and honest without being angry or even mean. Changing the world needs more critique with respect and consideration but without vitriol…
Michael Bryzek give one perspective on the world of microservices implementation and some of the associated complexities. I found this interesting in that changing the world almost always requires a change to the system, and the microservices approach to service implementation in software (all the rage lately) offers a way to consider the complexities standing between the current state of affairs and the change you want to implement. Piece of cake! (This will come up in later episodes on this topic arc, so consider this foreshadowing)
One of the various versions (long, short, clipped) of the faux TED Talk provided as promotion for the Prometheus movie…
